Mummy Says…Don’t Waste Money This Summer

Lillie: “This frisbee’s pink so it’s MINE. This one’s green so it must be TED’S. Now can we go to the park and throw them at dogs?”

Paddling pools splitting their sides, frisbees and balls lost to the neighbour’s dog and spades buried at the beach never to be found again. Let’s be honest kids are a bit of a disaster zone when it comes to their toys and things only get worse when they head inside. Which is why this summer I’m singing the praises of Poundland.

Why? Quite simply because everything’s a quid so it really doesn’t matter when it gets lost, broken or cast aside in favour of something else. With Barbie, Fifi and Ben 10 featuring on many items from frisbees to swimming googles to blow up beach balls the kids are happy as Larry and being that the gear is all so cheap Lillie can have her own pink frisbee (featuring Barbie) and Ted gets a green one (Ben 10) to save arguments. Not that Lil has yet figured out that throwing frisbees for other people’s dogs, let alone at them is Not On.

Water pistols, bubble guns, rubber rings, skipping ropes and badminton sets…with a bit of luck and a bit of sunshine we might just manage not to have to tidy up the living room four times a day for at least a couple of weeks.
