Mummy’s Favourite Firework Displays For Kids

sherborne_0001a-2.jpgLillie: ‘When there’s fireworks we have sausages in the garden and Ted cries doesn’t he?’

Mummy: ‘Ted, do you want to go and see some fireworks?’
Ted: ‘Noooooo, want choochoo train!’

If your child is keener on fireworks than Ted here are Mummy’s favourite displays for the under tens…

Sherborne Castle, Dorset: Saturday 7 November 2009
Alright, so we have a bit of an ulterior motive in backing the Sherborne bonfire night celebrations - GranwaGranwa are custodians of the ex-home of the potato’s number one fan Sir Walter Raleigh (Daddy only visits in the hope of getting a puff on Sir Walt’s amazing pipe). But regardless of family ties we’d be giving Sherborne the nod because it’s fireworks at a castle! What kid isn’t going to love that?
Bonfire 7pm, fireworks 7:30pm

Alexandra Palace, London: Saturday 7 November 2009
For Londoners there’s no better bonfire night out than at the Ally Pally. As well as a cracker of a display they’ve got a German Beer fest complete with Frauleins, Chas out of Chas ‘n’ Dave, an Oompahband, ice skating and a fairground. A family ticket is available for just £12 and the family viewing area serves food and drinks throughout the display.
Gates 4:30pm, fireworks 7:30pm

The Hop Farm Country Park, Kent: 31 October 2009
In fact The Hop Farm hosts a two night spectacular with a Sci-Fi themed firework event on Sunday (full weekend tickets available) but for those with young children Saturday promises the perfect night out. At 5pm a Disney themed display with low noise levels kicks off - if your child isn’t a fan of big noises, like Ted, you’ll know how handy this could be - then at 8pm nightowls can don their best vampire fangs for the ‘Spooktacular’ which combines Halloween with bonfire night. Hurrah!
Children’s display 5pm, Main display 8pm

Tutbury Castle, Staffordshire: Friday 6 November 2009
Perfect for slightly older children, the Tutbury Castle display includes a dramatisation of Guy Fawkes’ infamous fiery plot. Fancy and pretty handy for the no doubt hundreds of local kids who have history homework due on Monday. TTR like the sounds of something different from the usual Waltzers and local radio affair.
Gates 6:30pm, Guy Fawkes arrives 7:30pm

Santa Pod Raceway, Northamptonshire: Thursday 5 November 2009
Little boys will never look at Roary The Race Car in the same light after the Santa Pod bonfire night extravaganza. There’s monster trucks, lasers, stunt drivers, a dedicated kids entertainment area, fun fair and, believe it or not, they’ve managed to squeeze a few fireworks in to the line up too. Daddy will be so gutted he’s missing this!
Gates 4pm, entertainment 5:45pm, fireworks 7:50pm
